Why is Mold a Concern? Long term mold
exposure has been known to lead to aggravated asthma, allergic rhinitis,
and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Mold has been linked to
illnesses and deaths across the country.
Mold is found everywhere in the natural environment. There are
over 100,000 species of mold that have been identified. It is
estimated that there may be as many as fifteen times that many still to
be speciated. Mold is
nature's way of decomposing dead organic material. When mold finds
a proper moist environment, it grows by producing a tangled web of
hyphae called mycelium. To break down the organic materials, such
as cellulose, fungi give off mycotoxins and MVOCs (Microbial Volatile
Organic Compounds). Prolonged inhalation of mycotoxins and/or
MVOC's is a great concern.
Mold reproduces by forming spores. Spores detach easily and are
light enough to be carried over large distances by air currents.
This is why mold is a concern! With so many mold spores floating
around in the air, it is inevitable that they invade buildings.
The enter through open doors and windows as well as outdoor fed air
ventilation.
If spores find a moist place to settle, such as the moisture that is
a result of a leaky pipe or roof, the spores begin to reproduce.

Our staff at Air Quality Consultants has
the training and knowledge to conduct the proper mold detection,
investigation and testing necessary to ensure your home free
from mold contaminants. The education of our staff members
includes a Bachelors in Chemistry and a Bachelors in
Microbiology.
We are equipped to sample for air levels of
viable and non-viable spores in general breathing
spaces as well as within wall cavities. Our viable samples are
inoculated on proper growth medium until laboratory analysis.
Surface samples are also taken via sterile swab or
tape lift.
All samples are sent to accredited laboratories
for analysis and identification for specific types of mold such
as the genus Stachybotrys, Aspergilus,
and Penicillium.
We have extensive experience working with
analytical equipment and are qualified to carry out
extensive investigations within home environments. Our
knowledge base combined with technical expertise enables
us to identify the source of your mold problem. In addition,
our thoroughly documented procedures and detailed data
compilations allow us to suggest the proper diagnosis and
remediation protocol. Following remediation we
re-inspect and issue a clearance report when warranted.
